Licorice or Liquorice, is a unique tasting herb derived fromĀ Glycyrrhiza glabra, pea family. The edible and sweet root of licorice has been used in food and medicine for more than 4000 years. Licorice is available to consumers in forms of liquid extract, dried solid root and root powder, licorice tea, candy etc. One of the main ingredients in Licorice roots is glycyrrhizic acid, which is a natural sweetener/taste masker. Active chemical ingredient imparting the unique liquorice taste is glycyrrhizic acid/glycyrrhizin, which is 50 times sweeter than sucrose
